This paper collage and painted sculpture is a tribute to the Teatro del Mondo by Aldo Rossi (1931-97). Dramas and other performances were held in this floating theatre amid journeys throughout the Venice Biennale, 1979-80. The architect used the discourse of travelling and stage to signify life journeys for his passengers. This sculpture examines the duality of realism and fantasy through the toy-like theatre, much like the great tradition of modern Italian cinema.
Other than Venice, showboats could be found extensively in the past, ranging from the rivers of the US to the waterways in Southeast Asia.
The floating theatre and the beach huts base are two separately parts that make up one artwork.
Each piece of this work is hand painted, variations of colours on surfaces might occurr. All works will also receive their original collage compositions since each collage material is unique, and only used once. Hence each one is a stand-alone piece of work.
10% of the net profit from this work will be donated to Fondazione Aldo Rossi. Read INFO for details.
